Dysphonia
Dysphonia is a disorder that affects the voice.
It can occur in professionals who use their voice extensively, such as teachers, singers, announcers, etc.
There are also other harmful factors that cause dysphonia, such as smoking, speaking at a high volume, poor hydration…

How we rehabilitate dysphonia
Dysphonia examination
- Anamnesis and interview: we collect information about the vocal history, current symptoms, medical background, and voice usage habits.
- Vocal cord examination: if necessary, the patient is referred to an ENT specialist to perform a physical examination using fibrolaryngoscopy.
- Vocal quality assessment: we analyze the quality of the voice, including characteristics such as pitch, clarity, and vocal endurance, through the use of computer software.
- Assessment of vocal habits: we evaluate the patient's vocal usage patterns, including volume, intensity, and situations that may trigger dysphonia.
Dysphonia work sessions
- Goal setting: we establish the goals of the intervention, which affect both the clinical setting and the patient's home.
- Phase-based exercises: from a speech therapy perspective, we work in different stages or phases for dysphonia rehabilitation, starting with breathing and muscle work, up to the voice work itself and auditory control.
- Pedagogy: it is very important for the patient to attend to their "homework" to be done at home, as certain exercises are assigned to be performed daily and vocal hygiene guidelines must also be followed.
Progresión de la capacidad vocal
-
Monitoring of vocal progress: we perform periodic evaluations to measure progress and adjust the treatment plan as necessary.
-
Adaptation of strategies: we create modifications in treatment strategies based on the patient's evolution and changing needs.
-
Relapse prevention: we provide the patient with guidelines and techniques to prevent the reappearance of dysphonia and maintain a healthy voice in the long term.
