Bruxism

Bruxism is a functional disorder characterised by involuntary clenching or grinding of the teeth, which usually occurs during sleep or in situations of stress and concentration. This habit can cause jaw pain, tooth wear, headaches, neck tension and disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

How do we treat bruxism?

Initial assessment

Before starting treatment, we carry out a individual assessment, which includes:

  • Analysis of the symptoms (pain, stiffness, clicking, jaw fatigue

  • Exploration of the musculature facial, lingual, and cervical.

  • Posture assessment mandibular at rest.

  • Breath observation and swallowing pattern. 

  • Review oral habits and stress factors.


This assessment allows us to identify the functional factors that maintain bruxism.


Treatment preparation

Based on the assessment, a personalised treatment plan, with clear objectives such as:

  • Improve breathing and oral rest.

  • Prevent overload of the temporomandibular joint.

Specific exercises and habits are prescribed for the patient to incorporate into their daily routine.


Therapeutic sessions

During the sessions, we work on:

  • Relaxation techniques and muscle control.

  • Mobility and stability exercises mandibular.

  • Posture re-education resting position of the tongue, lips and jaw.

  • Consciousness physical and respiratory.

The aim is for the patient to learn how to release tension and maintain a more balanced oral pattern.


Working from home

The success of the treatment also depends on daily practice. For this reason, the following are provided: simple routines to be done at home, aimed at:

Monitoring and progress

Progress is evaluated continuously, adjusting the plan according to the patient's evolution.
Where necessary, we work in coordination with dentists, orthodontists or physiotherapists, offering a comprehensive approach.
