How do we deal with stuttering?

Examination and diagnosis

  • Medical history and detailed interviewWe gather information about the history of stuttering, its onset, triggers, and the patient's perception of their difficulty.

  • Assessment of speech fluency: we observe and record the frequency and type of disfluencies (repetitions, prolongations, blocks) during oral communication.

  • Exploration of contextual and emotional factorsWe investigate how different situations and emotions can influence the severity of stuttering.

Preparation for sessions

  • Setting individualised goalsWe set realistic and specific goals to improve speech fluency and confidence in communication.

  • Teaching management strategiesWe provide techniques to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with stuttering, as well as to increase fluency.

  • Practical techniques for modifying stutteringWe employ methods that help improve fluency, such as modifying the speed and rhythm of speech.

Intervention in everyday communication

  • Simulation of real-life situationsWe practise communication in everyday contexts to develop fluency skills in practical situations.

  • Working on self-esteem and confidence: we address the development of a positive attitude towards communication and the development of confidence in one's own ability to speak.

  • Incorporation of breathing and relaxation techniquesWe teach breathing and relaxation techniques that help maintain more fluid and controlled speech.

Continuation of progress

  • Monitoring speech fluency: We conduct regular assessments to measure progress and adjust the treatment plan as necessary.

  • Incorporating strategies into the daily routineWe provide guidelines and activities that patients can practise to reinforce their progress in different contexts.

  • Ongoing emotional and psychological supportWe offer support and guidance to address any emotional challenges related to stammering.
